Music Curriculum Information

The Music curriculum at Queensmead School offers students a fantastic introduction to the World of Music, gaining experience and knowledge of a wide range of Music styles, instrumentation and its rich history as well as its ongoing impact in modern day life. The curriculum incorporates elements of performance, composition and the development of listening, analytical and evaluative skills. At Queensmead, we offer a fun, engaging and varied Music curriculum.  We have two outstanding Music classrooms which feature a live stage, 15 Desktop Computers, Midi Keyboards, 5 practice rooms and World-class instruments.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) students will have 1 lesson a week of Music across 2 terms in the academic year.

Year 7

  • HT1: Element of Music (Orchestral Instruments) 
  • HT2:  Notation & Rhythm & The Clefs
  • HT3: Triads (Major/Minor) & Accidentals 
  • HT4: Playing Songs

Year 8

  • HT1: Reggae (Off Beat)
  • HT2: Blues
  • HT3: Hip Hop + Rap
  • HT4: Composition Skills

Year 9

  • HT1: You’ve got the Rhythm
  • HT2: Noteflight
  • HT3: DAW
  • HT4: Music for Film
