Student Leadership

The structure of our Student Leadership team

To contribute to the overall development of our students, we feel that it is vital to encourage them to take on positions of responsibility and leadership within the school.

Such positions allow them to appreciate some of the challenges that accompany leadership roles, along with giving them the opportunity to refine key skills such as communication, teamwork, public speaking and organisation.

There are a number of roles available to our students, illustrated in the diagram above.

  • The Post-16 Leadership team, consisting of students in Years 12 and 13, has oversight of what all student leaders are doing, and play a key role in organising events.

  • We have Prefects, from students in years 10-12, who are responsible for taking on whole-school responsibilities such as:
    • Supporting at Open Evening and other evening events
    • Supporting at charity events
    • Delivering assemblies
    • Contributing to the school’s outreach work
    • Peer reading
    • Supporting Year 7 tutor groups during form time

  • Students can become QM Leaders in one or more the categories below:
    • Queensmead Active – for significant contributions to Sport and Fitness.
    • Queensmead Creative – for significant contributions to Drama, Music and Art.
    • Queensmead STEM – for significant contributions to Science, Technology and Maths.
    • Queensmead Academic – for significant contributions to interventions, personalised and small group tuition.
    • Queensmead Culture and Community – for significant contributions to charity, fundraising, student leadership, Modern Foreign Languages.

  • There are two Year Captains in every year group from 7 to 11, chosen by the Head of Year at the start of the academic year. Our Year Captains meet with the Post-16 Student Leadership Team once a half term.

  • There is also a Form Captain who will represent each form group. They are chosen by their form tutor and will meet with the Year Captains once a half term.
