(Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
Queensmead offers a dynamic and engaging STEM programme that brings Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths to life for our students. A central part of our provision is the STEM Club, where students take on cross-curricular projects that integrate multiple disciplines. Recent projects have included designing, building, and testing balsa wood gliders, combining mathematical modelling, engineering principles, and computer-aided design.
We also work closely with our local primary schools, welcoming them onto our site to take part in a range of hands-on STEM activities. These sessions aim to spark curiosity and encourage early engagement with STEM learning.
Our programme is further enriched through strong links with higher education. We have hosted visits from Brunel University, whose staff and students have delivered live demonstrations and interactive experiments. These sessions not only deepen subject understanding but also give our students a valuable insight into university-level learning and life.
In addition, we offer a variety of enrichment opportunities through trips and competitions. Highlights include participation in the Maths Feast competition and visits to the London Design Museum, helping students explore the real-world applications and career opportunities in STEM fields.
Finally, we have delivered several assemblies across all year groups, highlighting different careers in STEM, as well as those which students may not initially affiliate with its encompassed subjects. This has also allowed us to focus upon famous women in STEM, helping to inspire the next generation to pursue these opportunities.
