We have a wide range of courses available at Post 16 which include both A Level and vocational options. University courses may require you to study certain subjects in order for your application to be considered, so we advise that you have had a careers meeting before choosing your options to ensure that you select the appropriate courses for your future. Each subject is studied for 5 hours a week.
Students are able to select three A Level courses, three vocational courses, or a combination of the two. This gives you the opportunity to gain the qualifications needed for a range of university courses and employment.
The study programme consists of the following:
• Five 1-hour lessons per week for each qualification
• Five 30-minute form tutor sessions per week
• A 1-hour study skills session per week in Year 12
• Three 45-minute revision lessons per week in Year 13 (focusing on Year 12 content)
• A 1-hour personal development lesson every fortnight
• Students are expected to complete 10 hours of community service in both Year 12 and 13.
• In addition, students are offered a range of additional qualifications such as the EPQ, Duke of Edinburgh and Sports Leader UK courses. Students are also offered regular opportunities to gain work experience in employment settings along with other extra-curricular activities (further information is given on the P16 Experience page).
A Level courses have a larger emphasis on examinations at the end of the course and usually have a smaller proportion of coursework requirements.
BTEC or Cambridge National courses have a larger emphasis on coursework and have regular unit assessments which contribute to the overall grade.
